Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) provide local charge for IC switching currents. X7R is a common dielectric for bulk digital bypass; C0G/NP0 for stable timing and filters.
Selection
- Place 0.1 µF class parts at each power pin pair when the IC datasheet asks for it.
- Derate voltage: 6.3 V or 10 V parts on a 3.3 V rail are typical; avoid running at 100% rated VDC on small cases.
- Check DC bias curves on high-value MLCC in small footprints.
